Cork Palestine Solidarity Campaign

The people of Cork working towards a Free Palestine

What can we do?

Gaza bombed by Israel
It shouldn’t be controversial to speak up against kids getting shot with sniper bullets, buried alive under rubble and torn apart by 2000 lbs bombs. But unfortunately, it is still.

People have lost work, their social status and income calling for an end to the genocide and occupation of Palestine. But the tide is changing!

The violence and the suffering is unbearable to witness, but we who are outside of Palestine have immense privilege to use.
Diversity is our strength
There’s a strong need for people power. Community building is hard and difficult, liberation is messy and not always morally superior. But we celebrate the diversity in efforts and people. You can do something for Palestine whether you’re a tech worker, a TD, a healthcare professional or an artist.

Speaking up for Palestinian human rights is still a risk. People are getting arrested across the world for speaking up against the genocide. However, the more there are of us, the less those in power can do.

People power!

Cork Palestine Solidarity Campaign (CPSC) at UCC

As a student:

Students in Ireland have paved the way in both Cork and Dublin-colleges taking a fierce and strong stance against financial ties Irish and Israeli institutions.

Many student-led human rights movements centre or incorporate  Palestinian Liberation in their agenda. Why? Because many students see that the same political powers that protect the economic interests of Israel as the same that let vulture funds sweep through the local housing market.

As a student however, we understand that you’re also more vulnerable to consequences taken by institutions protecting genocidal interests. Build a strong alliance and find a collective concerned with Palestinian human rights. There are many older people in more secure positions who can take greater risks.

Make sure to connect with wider solidarity-groups and movements, especially for legal and collective support.

As a techie:

How can we say no to an industry that underlies so much of what we do?

Quitting the job that pays our bills, mortgage, rent, insurances and food is a tough and risky decision. Many in tech feel their personal ethics interfering with their role in their companies and often become paralysed in terms of what to do.

Depending on the scale of the company you work at or the reliance on unethical tech, you can start looking into alternatives, raising awareness amongst workers and make plans for transitioning. Check the digital solutions you use and if there are alternatives if these companies support genocide.

A big part of the gaming sector involves securing high-end computational power. Nvidia is one of the most successful producers of consumer and corporate products for computational power, but are also directly helping the Israeli military with processing power for the genocide.

For web developers, Elementor and Wix are website solutions used by designers worldwide. Both are made by Israeli companies, both financing the continued occupation in Palestine. Don’t use these products. In fact, Bricks Builder is a much better web builder with an easier learning curve.

As a PARENT:

Children may hear what’s going on in Palestine and wonder why there are so many images of crying families on the news. It may be hard to explain to them what a genocide is, but we often underestimate our young ones and their ability to grasp difficult topics.

Admittedly, we find ourselves incapable of finding the words, and that’s okay.

Talk to other parents who’re involved with CPSC or with someone from your network who has spoken or posted about Palestine. Ask them how they discuss this with their children. Talk about Hind Rajab who is pictured above.

Look at your weekly groceries. Chances are that there are items that directly support the Israeli occupation. Use the Boycat-app to scan products on your next shopping trip.

Understand that parents in Palestine have no say in whether their children get shot, bombed or starved by the Israeli occupation – paid for by North American and European states and companies. It’s a brutal reality that unfortunately takes advantage of our reluctance to address the topic at hand.
